Scouting Report
Duce Robinson is one of the most tantalizing height-weight prospects in the 2027 class, a 6'6", 222-pound boundary receiver who returned to his father's alma mater after two seasons at USC. The son of former Seminole and Minnesota Twins draftee Dominic Robinson, he arrived as a five-star recruit and the nation's top-ranked tight end out of Pinnacle High in Phoenix, and was a rare dual Under Armour All-American in football and baseball, joining Kyler Murray and AJ Brown in that company. At USC he flashed game-breaking ability with 39 catches for 747 yards and 7 touchdowns at 19.2 yards per catch as a true freshman and sophomore, ranking fifth nationally at 21.1 yards per reception in 2023. NFL Draft Buzz, which grades him the No. 2 WR in the class at 88.2 overall with a first-round projection, praises a nearly 6'10" wingspan that creates permanent mismatches, fluid hip-sink for his size, and basketball-style box-out ability that turns 50/50 balls in the red zone into 80/20 propositions. Scouts temper that with a lack of sudden twitch (a projected 4.65 forty), a route tree heavy on verticals, and contested-catch focus lapses, noting he caught just 33 percent of targets in tight coverage. NFL Mock Draft Database lists him as a consensus No. 111 prospect with a fourth-round projection and Pittsburgh as his most-mocked landing spot. Evaluators repeatedly invoke a Mike Evans or Harold Carmichael deployment blueprint as an oversized X.
Strengths
- Rare 6'6"/222 frame with a nearly 6'10" wingspan that creates permanent length mismatches
- Basketball-style box-out and high-point ability that wins 50/50 balls in the red zone
- Tracks the deep ball with baseball-outfielder body control and full-extension catches
- Surprisingly fluid hip-sink and acceleration out of breaks for his size, plays smaller than he is
- Versatile alignment out wide, in the slot, or in-line as an oversized chess piece
- Finds soft spots against zone and presents a massive target over the middle
- Plays with toughness after the catch and breaks weak arm tackles
- Productive multi-sport pedigree, 39 catches 747 yards 7 TD at 19.2 ypc across two USC seasons
Weaknesses
- Lacks sudden twitch and explosive release
- wins with size more than separation (projected 4.65 forty)
- Caught just 33 percent of targets in tight coverage, contested consistency still a question
- Route tree underdeveloped and leans heavily on verticals, curls, and slants
- Functional playing strength is thin
- physical press corners can reroute him and disrupt timing
- Occasional focus lapses, takes his eyes off routine catches when anticipating contact
- Blocking technique is rudimentary with limited desire to sustain in the run game
NFL Comparison
Mike Evans (NFL Draft Buzz blueprint, oversized boundary X who wins contested balls); Harold Carmichael (cited deployment comp, towering red-zone matchup nightmare); Tetairoa McMillan (NFL Draft Buzz similarity comp, big-bodied fluid mover); Malachi Fields (NFL Draft Buzz similarity comp, long contested-catch WR)
