Wingo is the prototype vertical X in the 2027 class, a 6-foot-2, 214-pound field-stretcher with verified track speed that shows up as functional football speed on Saturdays. He arrived in Austin as a five-star recruit and one of the top prospects in the country out of St. Louis University High School with sub-10.55 100-meter times and multiple sub-21.50 200s, and the athletic profile has translated. As a true freshman in 2024 he flashed behind Isaiah Bond, Matthew Golden, and Gunnar Helm, then took over as the WR1 in 2025 and led Texas in catches, yards, and touchdowns. His signature was a 184-yard eruption at Mississippi State on a dozen targets, most of it earned past safety help. He routinely takes the top off a defense and draws the opponent's best corner most weeks, clearing out coverage even when the ball goes elsewhere. After the catch he is a genuine weapon, averaging better than eight yards a reception with 8.6 yards after contact per catch. He layers his stems on vertical and intermediate routes to set up corners, and his frame lets him box out defensive backs and absorb midfield contact to keep plays alive. He is alignment-versatile, having taken snaps at X and in the slot, and Texas plans to feature him as a Z in 2026. The catch point is where the projection wobbles.
