Scouting Report
Trevor Goosby is one of the most intriguing ascending offensive tackle prospects in college football, a redshirt sophomore from Melissa, Texas who entered the Longhorns program as a 247Sports four-star recruit in the 2023 class after flipping his commitment from TCU. At 6'7", 312 pounds with vines for arms, he carries the prototypical frame NFL teams covet at left tackle and pairs it with a feel for the position that belies his snap count. Brandon Thorn of Bleacher Report and Trench Warfare grades him a 7.9 (Key Contributor, Round 2), ranks him OT3 and 29th overall in the 2026 class, and tags Ryan Clady as the pro comparison. Sam Teets at Sports Talk slaps a first-round grade on him and floats top-ten ceiling if his trajectory holds. Goosby's first real action came as a redshirt freshman in 2024, when he spun in at both tackle spots in place of injured starters, including a start at LT in the SEC Championship and at RT in the CFP Quarterfinal against Arizona State. He flashed a natural, explosive kickstep that takes the air out of edge rushes, anchored against Texas A&M, and re-anchored against Georgia's Mykel Williams. Run-game power and core strength still lag the pass-pro tools, and he was penalized six times on roughly 320 snaps as awareness against stunts and B-gap counters caught up to his inexperience. He fits cleanly as a left tackle in a wide-zone scheme, with the ceiling of a long-term franchise blindside protector if a full year as the starter cleans up the mental reps.
Strengths
- Prototypical 6'7" frame with vine-length arms and room to add functional mass
- Natural, explosive kickstep that quickly gains width and depth in pass set
- Elite change-of-direction and footspeed to mirror rushers around the full arc
- Sturdy anchor and re-anchor ability flashed vs Mykel Williams and Texas A&M edge power
- Grip strength and sudden, heavy hands that arrest pass rushers and stall rush plans
- Operates with patience, feel, and positional leverage well beyond his snap count
- Easy mover off the line and to the second level with good burst and natural athleticism
- Took meaningful snaps at both LT and RT in CFP games as a redshirt freshman
Weaknesses
- High-cut frame caps lateral quickness and leaves recovery skills in the average range
- Bites on hard jab steps and stutters, gets pulled into scramble mode by counters
- Base widens on contact in the drive phase, leading to overextension when picture changes
- Play strength still impacts the run game, struggles to generate vertical displacement
- Stacked and shed by Mykel Williams several times at the point of attack
- Six penalties on roughly 320 snaps
- instincts and stunt recognition still works in progress
- Chest extends over knees on the move in run game, compromising balance into contact
NFL Comparison
Ryan Clady (Brandon Thorn pro comp: length/feel LT archetype); Tyler Guyton (similar developmental Texas OT with traits over reps); Josh Conerly Jr. (movement-skill, late-developing LT profile)
