Eric Gentry 2026 NFL Draft Profile | OLB from USC
Scouting Report
Eric Gentry is a high-upside outside linebacker from USC who possesses rare length and athleticism but faces significant questions about his weight and ability to hold up against NFL offensive linemen. At 6-6 and 211 pounds Gentry has a frame that is at the 0th percentile for weight among NFL linebackers making him one of the lightest prospects at the position in recent memory. Despite his slight frame Gentry is a fast-twitch player with an impressive first step off the snap and the quickness to fire off the edge and get around offensive tackles when he can avoid engagement. His plus-level athletic tools and length make him a potential disruptor in the backfield with the ability to rush the passer from the outside linebacker position or line up at the edge. He can also drop into coverage leveraging his length and range to take away throwing lanes. PFF ranked him 297th on their predictive big board and he was projected as a Day 3 value pick in an attacking defensive scheme. However Gentry cannot effectively engage with offensive tackles when they get their hands on him as his light frame gets overwhelmed at the point of attack. He is a scheme-dependent prospect who will not be for every team and may be completely off the board for half the NFL due to his weight concerns. He opted out of USC's bowl game in late 2025 which may raise questions about commitment. His evaluation will depend heavily on whether a team believes they can add weight to his frame without sacrificing his explosive athletic traits.
