Every field storm, graded
144 home crowds rushed the field after a win. Each one is graded on how big a favorite they were, how small the team they beat was, how good their own program is, and whether the finish earned it. Click a grade, a corner, a school or a dot. Drag across the chart to pick a cluster.
The line vs the finish
Right means the storming team was the favorite. Up means it nearly lost late. Small grey dots are filtered out; the ring color is the grade.
Tip: drag a box on the chart to filter the list to that cluster. Click a corner name to filter to that corner.

Field storm questions
What is the most embarrassing field storm in college football?
By our grade, Michigan over Western Michigan in 2026: the home team was a 27.5-pt favorite, won 13-12, and the fans stormed anyway. Grade F.
Which field storm was the most earned?
Illinois over No. 6 Wisconsin in 2019, as a 30-pt underdog with a finish that came down to the end. Grade A.
How are field storms graded?
Four things: how big a favorite the storming team was, how small the team it beat was, how strong its own program is, and how wild the finish was for an underdog. A conference title game at home also earns credit. A means storm away, F means stay in your seat.
Which school storms the field the most?
Since 2019 Colorado and Minnesota lead with six home storms each. Search any school on this page to see its storms and grades.
How the grade works
- The line (up to 60). A 28-point favorite gets the full 60; a 7-point underdog or worse gets none.
- The opponent (up to 27). Beating a smaller-conference or FCS team is the full penalty, an unranked peer half, a ranked team none.
- Your own program (up to 13). A strong program storming costs more than one that never wins. From each team's pregame Elo that season.
- The finish (credit up to 33). How close you came to losing over the last fifth of the game, weighted by how much of an underdog you were. An underdog's wild finish earns the storm. A big favorite nearly losing does not.
- Title games (credit 13). Winning a conference championship at home earns a storm.
