Who is he? Every guess shows how close you are.

Team, division, position, height, debut season and number. Six tries, one player, the same for everyone.

New player every day at midnight.
How to play

Type a name and pick him. Your guess comes back as six tiles: the team he played the most seasons for, its division, his position there, his height, his first NFL season and the number he wore. Green is right. Yellow is close: same conference, a neighbouring position, within 2 inches, 3 seasons or 3 numbers. Arrows point toward him. Six guesses; after the fourth, his initials are one tap away.

Every tile is read from the NFL's season rosters. Endless mode, a new mystery player whenever you want one, needs a free account.

Guess the NFL player, explained

Guess the Player is a daily NFL player guessing game in the style of Wordle. There is one mystery player, the same for everyone. Type any player's name and your guess comes back as six tiles: team, division, position, height, debut season and jersey number. A green tile is right. A yellow tile is close, like the right conference but the wrong division, or a height within two inches, and arrows tell you whether he is taller, came into the league later or wore a bigger number. Use what each guess tells you to close in, and name him inside six. The mystery player is always a name a real fan knows: today's stars, the all-time greats and the players who made their teams.

How do you play Guess the Player?

Type a player's name and pick him from the list. Each guess shows six tiles comparing him to the mystery player. Name the mystery player in six guesses or fewer.

What do green and yellow mean?

Green means that clue matches. Yellow means close: same conference, a neighbouring position (like defensive end and tackle), within 2 inches of height, within 3 seasons of his debut, or within 3 of his jersey number.

Which team counts for a player who moved around?

The team he played the most seasons for, and the number and position he had there. A tie goes to the later team, so Kirk Cousins counts as a Viking.

Who can the mystery player be?

A name a real fan knows: current stars, all-time greats and the players who made their teams, quarterbacks to pass rushers. You can guess almost anyone who played since 1970.

Is there a hint?

After your fourth guess you can reveal his initials.

Is it the same player for everyone?

Yes. One mystery player a day, so you can compare with your group chat.

Is it free?

Yes. No login, no download. A free account only saves your streak and puts your score on the leaderboard.
