Chris Johnson is a scheme-versatile cornerback from San Diego State who has emerged as potentially the first Group of Five player selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. The 6'1" corner displays exceptional ability with his eyes in off coverage, zone coverage, and man coverage situations, trusting his athleticism to flip his hips and run while being patient reading manipulation tactics. The former 3-star recruit has played his entire career at San Diego State and set new career highs in 2025 with 1.5 TFLs, 3 interceptions, 2 defensive touchdowns, and 6 passes defensed. Watching Johnson diagnose and make plays on the ball or ball carrier is a thing of beauty-he thrives in zone coverage when given room to work, but also performs well in man coverage assignments. His ability to read quarterback eyes and anticipate routes has made him one of the most productive corners in the Mountain West. After choosing to return to school last season, he's making the case to be a Day 2 selection.
