Caleb Hawkins was a straight-up cheat code as a true freshman at North Texas last year, 25 scores on the ground and the most total touchdowns any freshman has ever put up in FBS history. Here's the part everybody glosses over: he didn't leave alone. His head coach and his quarterback followed him to Oklahoma State, so the exact offense that sprung him comes with him, which makes this way less of a blind leap than your typical portal move. The honest catch is the competition. Hanging 25 touchdowns on American Conference defenses is a different sport than grinding it out against Big 12 fronts every Saturday, so that number is coming back to earth, full stop, and guys making this exact jump historically keep only about two-thirds of their production. The workload is still the real, repeatable thing, 230-plus carries and a wide-open backfield in Stillwater after Ollie Gordon left for the league, and that keeps him a top-ten back.
