Scouting Report

A big, hard-hitting downhill box safety.

The case for

  • Reliable wrap-up tackler with long arms
  • Relishes lowering the shoulder for big downhill hits
  • Very good closing burst to meet runners in their lane

The worry

  • High-waisted, long-legged build limits hip fluidity and change of direction
  • Not instinctive sitting back in zone, struggles reading downfield routes and tracking the deep ball
  • Low impact-play production, just 1 INT and 0 forced fumbles through two years

Full report

Jordan Castell is a bigger-bodied, hard-hitting safety who started two seasons at Florida before entering the portal in December 2025 and committing to Kentucky for 2026, where he is expected to anchor a defensive rebuild. A 4-star recruit out of West Orange (Fla.), he was an Under Armour All-American invite and earned First-Team All-SEC Freshman honors in 2023. Listed at 6-2, 213 pounds with a long, lean build, Castell looks the part of an NFL safety and does his best work downhill and over the middle. Scouts label him a box safety, praising him as a reliable, wrap-up tackler who relishes lowering the shoulder for a big hit and has a good feel for spacing and lining ball carriers up. His best trait is run support; he grades well against the run and meets runners in their lane with sound technique and good closing burst. The coverage profile is shakier. His weaker coverage grades and a 114.3 passer rating allowed when targeted reflect a player who is not yet instinctive sitting in zone, struggles tracking the deep ball, and whose high-waisted build makes flipping his hips fluidly a chore. Scouts grade him as a Day 3 developmental prospect. The upside is a physical, downhill strong safety who contributes early on special teams; the swing factor is whether his coverage instincts and impact-play production catch up to his frame in a fresh Kentucky scheme.

Every strength

  • Sound technique so ball carriers rarely run through him
  • 73.6 career run-defense grade
  • Good feel for spacing and lining ball carriers up
  • Does not over-commit and get taken out of plays
  • Long, lean NFL-caliber frame at 6-2, 213

Every weakness

  • Physicality comes and goes once he meets a blocker, limited take-on skills
  • Will draw flags early with aggressive style
  • 58.9 career coverage grade and 114.3 passer rating allowed when targeted
