Boo Carter is a playmaker looking for the right role. The 2023 Tennessee Mr. Football out of the Chattanooga area, he was an all-purpose dynamo who piled up 1,795 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior while adding 102 tackles on defense, and he signed with the Volunteers over 39 other offers as a consensus four-star. He made an immediate impact, earning the starting STAR role as a freshman and doubling as a dangerous punt returner. Across two Tennessee seasons he played 21 games with five starts, and his 2025 line was 25 tackles, 4.5 for loss, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles and a sack in nine games. He entered the portal afterward and committed to Colorado. The run defense is the strength: he is a downhill force near the line who stoned UAB for six run stops while covering the slot, and the three forced fumbles are a genuine playmaking trait. Elite timed speed and return value round out a sub-package identity. The coverage and the circumstances are the problem. His man-coverage grade sits well below average, he did not record an interception despite the slot snaps, and he finished with only two breakups outside of that. Availability is the other question after a midseason departure from the program and a hip injury that shortened his year.
