Trajectory is the story with Brandon Baker. The No. 1 offensive tackle and a top-25 overall recruit in the 2024 class, he starred at Mater Dei in Santa Ana and picked Texas over Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia and Oregon, with his position coach comparing him to first-round Longhorn tackle Kelvin Banks. He took over the right tackle job in 2025 and drew Ohio State's pass rush in his first career start, a five-pressure night that could have wrecked a young season. Instead he improved week over week, and by January he was closing with his best tape, including a near-flawless pass-protection outing against Michigan in the bowl game. Across 13 games he took 500 pass-blocking snaps and 373 in the run game, and he did not allow a single sack all year. The set quickness, patience and frame control that made him a five-star translate exactly as projected; he rarely lunges or opens his hips early. Two things temper it. Twelve penalties is a glaring number that has to be coached out before he can be trusted in one-score NFL games, and the pressure count says the clean sack line flatters him, with 23 pressures accumulating quietly. The run game is the weaker half, built on positioning rather than force. Texas moved him inside to guard for 2026 partly to force the issue, and the pass protection may end up playing at either spot.
