Patience is the whole evaluation with Samson Okunlola. He arrived in Coral Gables as a consensus five-star out of Thayer Academy in Massachusetts, rated the No. 4 offensive tackle in the 2023 class by 247Sports, and then waited three seasons for a real role. He played three games as a freshman in 2023 and four more in 2024, taking snaps at both tackle spots, before moving inside to left guard in 2025 and appearing in all 16 games of Miami's College Football Playoff run. He logged 493 blocking snaps in a rotation with starter Matthew McCoy and allowed no sacks, one hit and three hurries on 254 pass-blocking snaps, four pressures total across a 16-game season. The best tape came on the biggest stages: no pressure allowed in the season-opening win over Notre Dame, and a clean sheet across 33 snaps against Ohio State in the playoff. The holes are just as clear. He has never held a full-time starting job, seven penalties on a part-time snap load is an untenable rate for an NFL lineman, and Texas A&M gave him his roughest afternoon by walking him back and shedding his punch. Recruited as a tackle, he has taken nearly all his meaningful snaps inside, and the body type points to guard. Miami plans to move him to left tackle for 2026, so a team drafting him is buying the player he is becoming rather than the one on the 2025 snap counts.
