Nick Barrett 2026 NFL Draft Profile | DL3T from South Carolina
Scouting Report
Nick Barrett is a stout run-defending defensive tackle from South Carolina who finally got his opportunity to start as a senior after spending four years behind 2025 NFL draft picks T.J. Sanders and Tonka Hemingway and made the most of it with 42 tackles 6 tackles for loss 2 sacks and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. At 6-3 and 325 pounds Barrett has good size to defeat one-on-one blocks with solid gap control and anchoring ability against double teams and combo blocks. He has good hand placement extension and knock-back power with decent arm length and quick recognition against down blocks and pulling linemen. Barrett anticipates reach blocks well on outside zone and stretch runs using a hump move to close gaps and he gets off the snap with good knee bend and pad level for a leverage advantage. At the Senior Bowl he logged 27 team drill snaps with 3 positive grades and 11 one-on-one snaps earning his Co-Team MVP honor at South Carolina and fourth-team All-SEC recognition from Phil Steele. However Barrett is only a one-year starter who spent his first four years on special teams raising questions about his developmental trajectory. He has minimal pass-rushing ability and was taken out in obvious passing situations as his pad level rises when rushing the passer making his bull rush ineffective and he drops his hands allowing linemen into his chest. He lacks the quickness athleticism and hand finesse for effective pass-rush moves and his lateral movement is limited preventing him from beating linemen across faces. Bleacher Report graded him 6.3 ranking him 177th overall and DL15 comparing him to DaVon Hamilton.
