Dillon Thieneman is a versatile, high-motor safety who shattered expectations as a walk-on recruit to become one of college football's most productive defenders. At 6'0", 205 pounds, Thieneman arrived at Purdue as a mere three-star recruit but immediately made his mark, setting freshman program records with 74 solo tackles and 6 interceptions in 2023 while earning FWAA Defensive Freshman of the Year and All-America honors. After leading the Boilermakers in tackles for two consecutive seasons (106 in 2023, 104 in 2024), his 210 career tackles, 6.5 TFLs, 6 interceptions, 14 pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles made him the hottest safety in the transfer portal heading to Oregon for 2025. Thieneman's versatile skillset is being underrated as a true three-down impact defender. He can line up anywhere, triggers downhill in a hurry, and gives maximum effort every snap. He thrives making tackles in the open field with movement skills that keep him in sync with his processing as he diagnoses plays. His angles are sound, and he knows how to break down and engage with proper technique. As a short-zone robber, Thieneman's processing ability combined with smooth pedal and transitioning enables him to clamp down on short routes past stems. Since arriving in Eugene, his legendary work ethic has become locker room lore-first in the building, last to leave, obsessive about film study.
