Elijah Rushing
Scouting Report
A huge, long, bendy edge and linebacker hybrid.
The case for
- Rare 6-6, 275 frame with the length to set a hard edge and stack tackles
- Five-star Salpointe Catholic recruit who entered Oregon as one of the top edge prospects in the nation
- Grades as a top-20 linebacker before playing a full season
The worry
- True freshman with only 3 tackles in 2025, projection-heavy profile with almost no FBS sample
- Will need to add functional play strength to his frame to consistently anchor against Big Ten right tackles
- Pad level can rise on contact given his height, a recurring concern for tall edge rushers
Full report
Elijah Rushing is a true freshman EDGE/LB hybrid at Oregon and one of the most physically gifted long-term prospects in the 2027 class, a former five-star Tucson product whose recruitment topped national boards before he signed with the Ducks. At a listed 6-6 and 275 pounds with the kind of frame typically reserved for power-five tackles, Rushing offers a rare blend of length, leverage, and bend that pops on tape from his Salpointe Catholic days and during early Oregon practice reps. He grades as a top-20 linebacker in the class with a projected first-round outlook, landing on every credible 2027 watch list before ever logging a full college season. His freshman production is minimal by design (3 tackles, 1 solo across limited snaps behind a deep Ducks edge room), so the evaluation rides almost entirely on traits, projection, and pedigree. Scouts love the get-off, the natural leverage he wins despite his height, and the positional flexibility to play with a hand down on early downs and drop into spy/zone looks on passing downs. He is the kind of developmental swing piece NFL teams will track closely as he grows into a full-time starter role in 2026 with a chance to vault into the top of his class.
Every strength
- Natural bend and ankle flexion at his height that scouts compare to taller NFL pass rushers
- Positional versatility to play stand-up OLB or hand-in-the-dirt DE in Oregon's hybrid front
- Reported burst off the edge with first-step quickness that overwhelms high school and JUCO tackles on his prep tape
- Long arms create lock-out and disengage potential against the run
- Plug-and-play fit for 3-4 systems that value 6-6+ edge length
Every weakness
- Counter-rush plan and hand usage still raw at this stage of development
- Buried on a deep Oregon defensive front, limiting snap reps and tape availability for evaluators
- Multi-year wait before he is draft-eligible means injury and development risk remain real variables
