Full report
J'Mond Tapp is a 6-3 edge defender at Memphis who took a winding road to the 2027 draft class. A four-star recruit from Donaldsonville, Louisiana, ranked No. 107 nationally, he started at Texas, moved on to Arizona State, broke out at Southern Miss, and reunited with head coach Charles Huff at Memphis for his final season. His 2025 year at Southern Miss earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors, with 69 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. Through six games in 2026 he has 3.5 sacks and 19 tackles, including a sack and a forced fumble in the win over UAB. Bucs Wire's summer report praises his versatility, noting Southern Miss aligned him as a wide edge, a 5-technique and a reduced 4i. Listed weights run from 256 to 275 pounds depending on the source, and either way he holds up at the point of attack with a sturdy anchor and sharp run recognition. His best pass-rush move on film is a compact spin that keeps his path to the quarterback, and he times twists and stunts well. The concern is how he wins: he does not consistently beat blockers one-on-one, lacks elite bend and burst, and leans on effort and technique. Evaluators will debate how much of the production translates. Community mocks have him as a late-round pick, with a Fanspeak average pick near 224. Our board has him 216th, up 94 spots since July.
Every strength
- Compact spin move that stays tight and keeps his path to the quarterback
- Good timing and awareness on twists and stunts
- Good acceleration and balance for his size
- Active, high-effort pursuit that keeps him involved when plays move away
- Experience across multiple fronts at four programs
Every weakness
- Burst off the snap is not high-end
- Production can run ahead of the traits on film
- Leans on technique and effort more than raw physical gifts
- Pass-rush toolbox looks thin beyond the spin and stunt work
- Can blend into stretches of tape despite the stat line
