Josiah Trotter 2026 NFL Draft Profile | ILB from Missouri

Scouting Report

Josiah Trotter is one of the most physical and instinctive inside linebackers in the 2026 NFL Draft class, carrying on the family legacy as the son of 4x Pro Bowl, 2x All-Pro Jeremiah Trotter Sr. and brother of Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Jr. The 6-2, 237-pound redshirt sophomore from Philadelphia has a supercomputer brain for diagnosing run plays, processing at a speed that puts him among the fastest in the class alongside Sonny Styles. Trotter plays with heavy, powerful hands that generate immediate separation from blockers with excellent strike timing and placement -- offensive linemen struggle to land and sustain blocks against him. His explosive short-area acceleration and downhill burst allow him to hit like a freight train, and his outstanding contact balance and lower-body strength let him hold the point of attack against much larger blockers. After earning Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-American honors at West Virginia in 2024, Trotter transferred to Missouri where he posted 84 tackles, 13 TFLs, and 2 sacks en route to First Team All-SEC recognition in 2025. He is a slippery navigator when working through blocks, using agility, a twitchy swim move, and the ability to get skinny through gaps. However, Trotter has limited range as a sideline-to-sideline defender -- more explosive in short areas than fast in space. His coverage is a work in progress, capable of handling hook curls and spy responsibilities but getting stacked on wheel routes and downfield man assignments. He bites on play action, eye manipulation, and misdirection too often. Trotter also has concerning knee injury history including an MCL injury in high school, a missed 2023 season believed to be an ACL, and a missed 2025 Gator Bowl with a knee injury requiring surgery. When healthy, Trotter profiles as an old-school throwback MIKE linebacker who belongs in the conversation for a top-50 selection.
