STM Take

First STTM ranking at tier 2 (#16) in year two as a 2024 UDFA puts Speights in the rarest outlier-positive class at the LB position. The Oregon State-to-LSU transfer pedigree plus the Rams' defensive scheme appears to be the catalyst. The 2026 question is whether Speights holds tier 3 or better across a full second starter season or whether the 2025 finish was a one-year context spike.

Speights came out of LSU as a 2024 undrafted free agent signed by the Los Angeles Rams after transferring from Oregon State for his final college season. He spent his rookie year as developmental depth before emerging into a starter role in 2025. His first STTM appearance comes in 2025 at tier 2 (#16), an unusual year-two breakout for a Day 3 UDFA.

Strengths

Tier 2 (#16) STTM finish in year two as a 2024 UDFA puts him in the rarest outlier-positive class at the LB position.
LSU SEC transfer pedigree plus the Rams' position-specific coaching gives him real developmental foundation.

Concerns

Single tier 2 finish without prior STTM history puts the 2025 production entirely in the one-year-sample risk category.
Los Angeles's broader defensive identity around the Aaron Donald-era transition compresses the structural support around Speights.

What to watch: Whether Speights holds tier 3 or better across the full 2026 Rams season, the threshold for confirming the 2025 breakout was structural rather than situational.
