Scouting Report

NOTRE DAME · 2026 draft class

Pat Coogan may be the smartest interior lineman in the 2026 NFL Draft class, functioning as a second quarterback on the field with elite football IQ that allows him to identify defenses and make protection calls at an exceptional level. The Palos Heights, Illinois native came out of Marist High School in Chicago as a three-star recruit, choosing Notre Dame over offers from LSU, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma. After taking a redshirt as a freshman in 2021, Coogan developed steadily with the Fighting Irish, eventually becoming a starter and helping Notre Dame reach the National Championship Game. His late splash in the 2025 transfer portal brought him to Indiana, where he became the missing link for Curt Cignetti's squad. Transitioning full-time to center, Coogan became the "brain" of a unit that fueled a record-breaking offense and a Big Ten Championship run. At 6'4", 310 pounds, Coogan is a technical interior lineman who plays with excellent extension and has the athleticism to expand a playbook in the run game. His experience and success in both gap and zone run schemes, along with his comfort as a puller, intrigue teams looking for an experienced, well-coached interior presence. He allowed zero sacks for long stretche's and showed veteran leadership throughout Indiana's magical season. However, Coogan isn't a "freak" athlete and can be overmatched by elite 3-techniques. His feet die quickly after initial surge, and more nuanced pass rushers can attack his outside shoulder. He projects as a high-floor interior lineman providing immediate depth while developing into a reliable NFL starter.
