Scouting Report
Minnesota · 2026 draft class
Deven Eastern is a tall lightweight nose tackle from Minnesota who showed promising results as an interior disruptor in 2024 earning recognition as the lone Golden Gopher representative at the Senior Bowl and an invitation to the 2026 NFL Combine. Eastern operates primarily as a 4i-technique with the ability to muddy the middle of the play and eliminate multiple gaps through his positioning and effort. He is a play-strength mismatch against centers providing adequate pocket-pushing ability from the interior and using his length and quickness to generate pressure up the middle. His ability to muddy the middle creates problems for opposing run games as he occupies blockers and disrupts running lanes even when he does not make the tackle himself. ESPN included him in the just-missed category for their top interior defensive line rankings alongside players like Tim Keenan III and Cameron Ball validating his place among the top IDL prospects in the class. His Senior Bowl invitation gave him an opportunity to showcase his skills against higher-level competition and his Combine invite suggests NFL teams see enough on tape to warrant further evaluation. However Eastern's lightweight frame is a significant concern for a nose tackle at the NFL level as he may lack the anchor strength to hold up against double teams and power run schemes. His play strength limitations against heavier more physical centers and guards raise questions about his ability to be a three-down player. Scouting data from major outlets is limited as Bleacher Report graded him 5.6 ranking him 224th overall and DL20 suggesting he is a developmental Day Three prospect whose athletic testing will be critical in determining his draft stock.
