Barion Brown 2026 NFL Draft Profile | WR from LSU
Scouting Report
Barion Brown is an explosive wide receiver and elite kick returner from Kentucky who brings game-changing speed and return ability but faces significant questions about his route-running and frame at the next level. At 6-1 and 174 pounds Brown has a lean sprinter's frame and has been clocked at 22.6 miles per hour on a kick return against Louisville making him one of the fastest players in the 2026 class. He set Kentucky's single-season and career kick return touchdown records with 4 return touchdowns in two seasons earning SEC All-Freshman Team honors in 2022 and First Team All-American from Sporting News in 2023 along with TaxSlayer Gator Bowl MVP. Brown is a smooth athlete with good acceleration off the line of scrimmage who uses a hesitation move to freeze defensive backs and maintains top speed while other players are already slowing down. He has excellent body control and concentration on back-shoulder receptions tracking the ball over his shoulder well and getting low to dig out poorly placed throws. His lethal out-and-up route and vertical threat when given cushion make him dangerous when defenders play off coverage. However Brown's lean frame is a significant limiting factor as he is physically outmatched against press coverage and cannot consistently stack defensive backs out of press. He had 11 drops across two seasons and two fumbles in 2023 showing inconsistent hands particularly on balls thrown with tight velocity. His route tree is limited with route breaks generating minimal separation and his release package needs development to avoid disruption at the line of scrimmage. He struggled to separate vertically against Georgia's Kamari Lassiter and Clemson's Shelton Lewis showing his limitations against top corners in man coverage. He projects as a slot-only receiver and special teams ace who will be used in specific packages to stretch defenses.
