Chambliss is one of the great improvisation stories in recent memory, a zero-star Division II benchwarmer who won two national titles at Ferris State and then walked into the SEC and dragged Ole Miss to the College Football Playoff semifinals. He is a dual-threat quarterback in the modern mold, a jitterbug athlete whose legs turn broken plays into first downs and whose creativity forces defenses to cover every blade of grass. As a designed runner he is a genuine weapon on QB power, counter and draw, using shifty feet and angle-seeking vision to avoid tackles rather than break them. His arm is better than the reputation suggests, carrying real velocity and zip on short and intermediate throws and enough juice to punish single-high coverage down the middle. He throws with conviction, changes arm speeds, layers the football to intermediate depths, and stays comfortable delivering off-platform and on the move after the pocket collapses. His best tape came on the biggest stages, torching Georgia for 362 yards in the Sugar Bowl and leading a game-winning field-goal drive in the final minute. He plays with the gritty edge of a player who earned everything from the bottom up. But the flaws are just as real as the flashes. He is undersized and his passes get batted at the line when the pocket muddies, and his eyes come down to the rush too quickly, which sends him bailing before routes develop. As a processor he is instinctive rather than predictive, staring down first reads, failing to manipulate defenders with his eyes, and getting fooled by post-snap coverage rotations and disguised zone drops. His pre-snap operation is not an NFL process yet, as he leans on sideline cards and coaches to make protection checks against pressure looks.
