Tyren Montgomery 2026 NFL Draft Profile | WR from John Carroll
Scouting Report
Tyren Montgomery is one of the most compelling stories in the 2026 draft class a former basketball player who only started playing football two and a half years ago and has already risen from Division III John Carroll University to Senior Bowl standout and likely NFL Combine invitee. At 5-11 and 190 pounds with an estimated 4.55 forty Montgomery set the John Carroll program record with 17 receiving touchdowns in 2024 catching 57 passes for 1071 yards before following up with 119 receptions for 1528 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2025 leading John Carroll to the national semifinals. His athleticism translated from basketball where he walked on at LSU before family circumstances and COVID redirected his path and his court skills show up on the football field with explosive route running strong footwork and outstanding jump ball ability. At the Senior Bowl PFF's Trevor Sikkema called him one of the top performers noting his athleticism and ball skills have bested almost every cornerback on jump balls and that his draft story is just beginning. He runs routes with high intensity and decisiveness creating separation through a combination of athleticism and footwork that is rare for a player with such limited football experience. However Montgomery is extremely raw having only played organized football for about two and a half years and he is green on the finer details of playing receiver. His Division III competition level raises serious translation questions and at 24 turning 25 he is older than typical prospects with less development runway. NFL.com graded him as likely needing time in a developmental league and his small-school tape requires a significant leap of faith from evaluators.
