STM Take
Five straight top-3 STTM finishes (#3 in 2021, #2 in 2022, #27 in 2023, #1 in 2024, #1 in 2025) with the 2023 step back attributable to a back injury that limited him to 13 games. Back-to-back #1 finishes at 35 and 36 years old is the most sustained RT performance any tackle has produced this late in a career. The 2026 question is contract structure and how many more years he wants to play.
Johnson came out of Oklahoma as Philadelphia's 1st-round pick (4th overall) in 2013. He has been the Eagles' starting right tackle for 13 seasons and won Super Bowl LII (vs New England) and Super Bowl LIX (vs Kansas City) in the bookends of his career. He has made five Pro Bowls and three 1st-team All-Pro selections (2021, 2022, 2024). PED suspensions in 2014 (4 games) and 2016 (10 games) are the only blemishes on what is otherwise a Hall-of-Fame trajectory at right tackle.
Strengths
- Three 1st-team All-Pro selections (2021, 2022, 2024) plus two Super Bowl rings (LII, LIX) establish a Hall-of-Fame trajectory. Back-to-back #1 STTM finishes at 35-36 is unprecedented late-career production for any RT.
- Career sack rate is among the lowest of any active OT. Eagles' pass-protection unit identity since 2022 has been built around the Johnson-Mailata bookend pair.
Concerns
- Age 36 is the structural concern; even the best RTs decline rapidly in their late 30s. The 2023 back injury (13 games) is a precedent for how quickly health can change the trajectory.
- Cap charge in 2026 is one of the highest at the position, which creates pressure for Philadelphia to either restructure or move on if the play falls off.
What to watch: Whether the 2026 snap share stays above 95%, the threshold every elite OT needs to clear to sustain a tier 1 finish at his age.
