STM Take

Tier 2 (#13) on his first full NFL season is exactly the kind of debut a 1st-round OT should produce. The 2024 rookie knee injury (limited to 2 games) was the only reason this is his first STTM-rankable season. At 26 with the Steelers' offensive line in active rebuild around him, the trajectory points up if he stays healthy.

Fautanu came out of Washington as Pittsburgh's 1st-round pick (20th overall) in 2024 after starting at left tackle for the Huskies' 2023 national championship runner-up team. A knee injury limited him to just two games as a rookie. The 2025 season was his first real NFL sample, and he produced a tier 2 #13 finish that immediately established him as one of the better young tackles in the league.

Strengths

  • 1st-round draft slot (20th overall) plus Washington 2023 national championship runner-up pedigree establishes a real ceiling profile. Tier 2 (#13) on his first full NFL sample is meaningful proof.
  • 26-year-old age (older for a 2nd-year player due to the redshirt years at Washington) means he came into the NFL with college-developed technique already in place.

Concerns

  • 2024 rookie knee injury (limited to 2 games) is the immediate durability question. Knee issues for OL are recurring risks.
  • Pittsburgh's interior OL has been a years-long problem; if the guard play around Fautanu does not improve, his protection load may compromise his individual production.

What to watch: Whether his 2026 snap share stays above 95% across a full 17-game season, the threshold that confirms the knee is fully behind him.
