Scouting Report
Roman Hemby is a patient vision-driven zone runner who transferred from Maryland to Indiana and became the lead back on the Hoosiers' undefeated national championship team. At 6-0 and 210 pounds he runs with exceptional patience behind the line of scrimmage waiting for blocks to develop before pressing the hole. Hemby excels in outside zone concepts using quick feet and a sharp jump cut to identify and exploit soft edges. His cutback ability is among his best traits as he manipulates his path to set up defenders before changing direction at the second level. Hemby has legitimate receiving chops from his Maryland days where he ran routes from the slot and out of the backfield showing natural hands and quick head turns as a check-down option. He eclipsed 1000 rushing yards for the first time in 2025 leading Indiana's backfield during their championship run. However he lacks play strength and power running too upright to punish defenders between the tackles. His pass protection is a major concern as he lacks the anchor strength to do more than serve as a speed bump for blitzers. He is not a true home-run threat lacking elite speed and short-area explosion. Hemby projects as a Day 3 pick in the round 5 range profiling best as a rotational committee back in a zone-based scheme.
