McCaffrey was born in Castle Rock, Colorado to former NFL receiver Ed McCaffrey and played at Stanford, where he won the 2015 AP College Football Player of the Year and set the NCAA single-season all-purpose yards record (3,864). Carolina took him eighth overall in 2017, and he was traded to San Francisco in 2022.
