Carson Beck entered the 2024 college football season as the presumptive No. 1 quarterback prospect for the 2025 NFL Draft after leading Georgia to an 11-3 record and the College Football Playoff. While having a successful season, his performance through NFL eyes wasn't as sharp as his prior time with the Bulldogs. After briefly declaring for the 2025 draft, Beck opted to transfer to Miami, taking over for Cam Ward who emerged as the No. 1 overall pick after one year in Miami. A four-star recruit who played baseball in high school, Beck was a two-time national champion at Georgia (2021, 2022) and earned Second-team All-SEC honors in 2023. The 6-4, 220-pounder is a very good quarterback when patient, seeing the defense well both pre- and post-snap and confident in both his arm and the players around him. He underwent UCL surgery on his throwing elbow at the end of 2024 season but started the 2025 season hot at Miami behind a very good offensive line.
Strengths
Poise when pocket collapses to make throws
Proven leadership in big games and ability to battle through adversity
Can make progressions through receiving options with strong understanding of defensive coverages
Good mechanics with fluid and easy throwing motion, consistent mechanics and strong lower-body base
High-level accuracy and precision as a passer, frequently putting ball in pinpoint spots in short to intermediate areas
Applies right touch and varying ball speeds as needed, allowing precise football placement
Efficient and quick release enabling rapid and accurate delivery to targets
Good arm strength that can hit wide sideline throws and rifle ball into shrinking windows when needed
Weaknesses
Streaky thrower who can experience periods where accuracy, mechanics, and ability to read defenses decline
UCL surgery on throwing elbow raises injury concerns and durability questions
Decision-making under pressure needs improvement - holds ball too long, forces throws into coverage, takes unnecessary sacks
Struggles with ball placement and makes impulsive throws when pressured, especially beyond 10 yards
Lacks strength to make certain throws expected of starting NFL quarterback
Not as patient as predecessor Cam Ward, can get too perfect with throws
Struggles with complex defensive pressures and more exotic/deceptive coverages
Feet and hips don't engage as fluidly when pressured or on the move
