Emmett Johnson 2026 NFL Draft Profile | RB from Nebraska
Scouting Report
Emmett Johnson emerged as one of college football's most productive running backs in 2025, establishing himself as a legitimate Day 2 NFL Draft prospect with his combination of elite agility, receiving ability, and workhorse production. The Minneapolis native was named Minnesota's Mr. Football in 2021 before arriving at Nebraska, where he developed into the kind of three-down back that Matt Rhule's offense demanded. Johnson's breakout 2025 season saw him rush for 1,451 yards-third-most in the FBS-and 12 touchdowns on 251 carries while adding 46 receptions for 370 yards and three scores out of the backfield. He led all FBS running backs in receptions, a testament to his versatility. His production earned Big Ten Running Back of the Year honors and First Team All-Conference recognition. Johnson posted Nebraska's first 1,000-yard rushing season since 2018 and the program's highest rushing total since Ameer Abdullah's 1,611 yards in 2014. He became just the seventh Big Ten player since 1956 to reach 1,400 rushing yards and 350 receiving yards in a single season-only Saquon Barkley had accomplished that feat in the previous 20 years. At 5'11", 200 pounds, Johnson's lateral agility is genuinely special, and when combined with his vision, patience, and burst, he creates explosive plays even without elite long speed. His 68 missed tackles forced demonstrates his elusiveness. However, his size limits his effectiveness in short-yardage and red-zone situations where power matters most. His 43.5 PFF pass block grade indicates work needed in protection. Johnson projects as an average starter with upside or an explosive rotational back in wide zone schemes.
