Daniels was born in Fontana, California and entered Cajon High at 125 pounds, needing a medical note to play. He spent three years at Arizona State, transferred to LSU, and won the 2023 Heisman Trophy after leading the FBS in total yards and setting the single-season passer rating record. Washington took him second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
