STM Take

Daniels dropped from STTM #7 tier 2 as a rookie to #29 tier 8 in year two, but Wikipedia confirms what the game log already showed: his second season was marred by injury, missing the majority of the year. The skill case from 2024 is intact; the 2025 rank is a games-played story. The bar is whether he plays 17.

Daniels was born in Fontana, California and entered Cajon High at 125 pounds, needing a medical note to play. He spent three years at Arizona State, transferred to LSU, and won the 2023 Heisman Trophy after leading the FBS in total yards and setting the single-season passer rating record. Washington took him second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. As a rookie he won Offensive Rookie of the Year, made the Pro Bowl, led the Commanders to their first NFC Championship Game since 1991, and threw the "Hail Maryland" walk-off TD named NFL Moment of the Year.

Strengths

  • 2024 OROY + Pro Bowl + NFC Championship Game appearance is the cleanest rookie campaign on the current board.
  • Career 96.7 passer rating and 1,169 rushing yards with 8 rushing TDs across his playing time.

Concerns

  • Major time missed in 2025 makes durability a real question after only one full pro season.
  • Game-log gap from Week 9 to Week 14 in 2025 confirms multi-month absences, not a one-game injury.

What to watch: Games played in 2026. The 2024 baseline is one of the strongest rookie campaigns ever; he just needs to be on the field.
