STM Take

Maye is the cleanest jump in the rankings: from STTM #28 tier 7 as a rookie to STTM #1 tier 1 in his second year, ratified by league-wide passer rating and completion percentage hardware. The story is no longer ceiling but sustainability with defenses getting a full offseason to scheme against him. He looks like the new top of the position, but the case rests on a single season of elite play.

Maye grew up in Huntersville, North Carolina, played at Myers Park and committed to UNC after flipping from Alabama, then won the 2022 Shaun Alexander Award and ACC Player of the Year as a redshirt freshman by leading the NCAA in total yards. New England took him third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he made the Pro Bowl as a rookie. In 2025 he led the league in passer rating and completion percentage, won the Bert Bell Award, earned second-team All-Pro and a second straight Pro Bowl, and pushed the Patriots to a Super Bowl LX appearance.

Strengths

  • Led the NFL in passer rating and completion percentage in 2025, the rare year-2 QB to win both efficiency crowns.
  • PPR floor was stable all season, with recent games clustered between 15 and 32 fantasy points and no zero-point weeks.

Concerns

  • One year of elite play. The 2024 rookie line came in at STTM #28 tier 7, so the trajectory is essentially one full season old.
  • No NFL film yet of him losing the efficiency edge under heavy disguised coverage, which is what year-three defenses will test.

What to watch: Whether the completion-percentage lead holds once defenses devote a full offseason to disguising the looks he picked apart in 2025.
