STM Take
Mason's drop from STTM #16 tier 4 in his 2024 49ers year to #29 tier 8 in his first Vikings season is the largest rank fall in this batch of starters. The career 5.1 YPC is one of the better efficiency lines in the field; the touch share in Minnesota never matched the San Francisco 2024 spike. The pass-game role (28 career catches) is also thin.
Mason was born in Gallatin, Tennessee and played at Georgia Tech, then signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He spent three years in San Francisco and signed with Minnesota in 2025. Career line is 2,011 rushing yards at 5.1 YPC, 13 rushing TDs, and 28 catches for 173 yards.
Strengths
- 5.1 career YPC on 2,011 yards is among the top quartile for active RBs.
- 230-pound frame with goal-line history; 13 career rushing TDs on light volume is real.
Concerns
- 13-rank slide from 2024 to 2025; the system change broke the production.
- 28 career catches across four seasons; the receiving role has never developed, which caps the PPR floor.
What to watch: Whether Minnesota or the next team gives him the 2024 SF carry share back; the YPC says the talent is there.
