The longer bar is the better unit, and it takes its team's colour. A long coloured bar against a short grey one is where a side has the edge.

The tale of the tape

This is a grind, and the Vikings defense is built for it. The meeting that decides it is on the ground: a Saints run game that ranks 24th against a Vikings run defense that ranks 5th. With Travis Etienne Jr. on IR, the carries fall to Alvin Kamara, and expect New Orleans to give up on the run early. Since 2015, teams with a gap this size won 58% of the time but covered only 52%, because the line already knows. Minnesota wants to shorten the day: 4th-most runs on early downs this year, and the 3rd-slowest offense in the league last year. The Saints' answer is that the Vikings struggle to finish: 29th in the red zone, 26th throwing it. If Minnesota keeps settling for field goals, that is where the game flips.

The best unit on the field is Minnesota's pass rush, 1st at hitting the quarterback, against a Saints line that ranks 17th, or 14th once you account for the rushes it has faced. The Vikings blitzed more than anyone last year. What blunts it is coverage: Minnesota played the least man coverage in the league last year, and Devaughn Vele was 3rd of 105 receivers against zone in 2025. For the bet, the trends and the angles disagree on the side. The Vikings have covered 10 of 13 as a road favorite, a run that began before their new quarterback. Our picks on this game are on the card, behind the Betting Pass.
