STM Take

Smith dropped from STTM #19 tier 5 in his last Seattle year to #40 tier 8 in his single Raiders season. The career story is one of the more unique on the board: a backup for seven years, a breakout at age 32, and now an age-35 trend that is going the wrong way. The 2022 ceiling was real; the 2025 Vegas floor is also real.

Smith was born in Miramar, Florida, played at West Virginia where he was first-team All-Big East in 2011, and was a second-round pick of the Jets in the 2013 NFL Draft. After two years as a starter and seven seasons of backup work across the Jets, Giants, and Chargers, he became Seattle's starter in 2022, led the league in completion percentage, won Comeback Player of the Year, and made the Pro Bowl. He earned a second Pro Bowl in 2023, was traded to the Raiders in 2025, and is back with the Jets for 2026.

Strengths

  • 2022 NFL completion percentage leader and Comeback Player of the Year, with two career Pro Bowls.
  • Career 65.2 percent completion percentage on 3,103 attempts holds up across a long, non-traditional career arc.

Concerns

  • 21-rank drop from 2024 to 2025; the tier-5 Seattle baseline did not travel to Las Vegas.
  • 124 career TDs against 89 INTs is one of the worst TD-INT ratios among all current starters.

What to watch: Whether the return to the Jets in 2026 produces a tier-6 rebound, or whether the 2025 line was the start of the late-career fall.
