The variance is the whole story. Winston still throws the deep ball and posts 30-point fantasy games (32.24 PPR Wk 12 2025, 32.98 PPR Wk 13 2024), but the boom/bust profile from his Tampa years is now compressed onto a smaller workload. Two straight tier 7 finishes (#27 NYG, #25 CLE) confirm he is no longer a starting-quality answer, even though he remains the league's highest-ceiling backup if you can stomach the floor.

Winston came out of Florida State as the 2013 Heisman winner and #1 overall pick by Tampa Bay in 2015. He posted the famous 33-touchdown, 30-interception 2019 season, the only quarterback in NFL history to clear 30 in both categories, while also leading the league in passing yards (5,109). New Orleans signed him as Drew Brees's replacement in 2020 and his only full starter season ended on a torn ACL in 2021. He has since been a high-arm-talent, high-variance backup with brief starter stretches in Cleveland (2024) and New York (2025).

Strengths

Still produces explosive single-game outputs when given the keys: three 26+ PPR games across 2024-2025 (32.98, 32.24, 26.6) is a profile no other current backup matches.
Arm talent has aged better than his mobility; he can still attack downfield in clean pockets. The Tampa peak (tier 4, #14 STTM in 2018-2019) is the ceiling reference point.

Concerns

Tier 7 in back-to-back seasons (#25, #27) shows the model no longer sees him as a starter. His career interception rate around 3.3% is among the worst for any QB with 5,000+ attempts.
The 0 PPR Wk 15 2025 and the -0.36 Wk 15 2024 show how bad the bottom still is when defenses bait him into deep throws. The 30-INT 2019 season was not a fluke; it was the profile.

What to watch: Whether the Giants give him meaningful 2026 starts behind their younger options or commit fully to a different direction after the season opener.
